A new paper published on "The Monitor" Magazine

A recent work performed by NHAZCA about the integration of contact and remote sensing techniques for Structural Health Monitoring has been published in the June 2014 edition of "The Monitor", e-magazine. The study allowed to perform the fast dynamic characterization of "Ponte della Musica", a pedestrian bridge crossing the Tiber River in Rome. By using a combination of interferometric radar system IBIS-S and the SARA SS220 triaxial velocity sensor, the main resonance frequencies in the three spatial directions were identified, demonstrating  efficacy of radar systems for quick dynamic inspections.

Course: Satellite SAR Interferometry for Geologists and Engineers

NHAZCA, in collaboration with the CERI Research Center and the Earth Sciences Department of the "Sapienza" - University of Rome, is organizing the training course: "Satellite SAR Interferometry for Geologists and Engineers". The course, that will be held on 30th January 2015 in Rome (Italy), aims to provide a theoretical and practical guide about the opportunities offered by SAR satellites and the use of the interferometric data for professional needs.

For more information, please visit: www.interferometria.it

The first edition of the course will be available in Italian language.

The official schedule of the "Second International Course on Geotechnical and Structural Monitoring" is online

Focus

Temporal prediction of landslides

A new paper on the temporal prediction of landslides was published on the Landslide International Journal by Springer. The pre-failure behaviour of ten small rock slides was investigated by time series of displacement achieved by Terrestrial SAR Interferometry monitoring. By experimental tests based on the Fukuzono approach, a prediction with a temporal accuracy of about 2 hours was obtained, thus demonstrating the efficacy of this approach in view of landslide risk reduction.
