Satellite monitoring of the bell towers in the historic centre of venice

Among its various activities for the safeguard of the collective architectural and cultural heritage of the national territory, NHAZCA has taken charge of an important project of satellite monitoring of the Bell Towers of Venice under the concession of MIBACT – Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendence for the Municipality of Venice and the Lagoon.

Mainly using the advanced satellite interferometry technique (A-DInSAR), NHAZCA will carry out for the next two years a monitoring activity on the bell towers of the historical centre of Venice and its estuary.

The objective of the commission is to verify any deformations that could affect the bell towers of Venice and that might be an indication of structural instability to be monitored with interventions and detailed studies, providing support for the evaluation of intervention priorities.

All this will be possible through the analysis of highly accurate data acquired through satellite surveys and the simultaneous use of innovative terrestrial monitoring solutions. For further information on the activities carried out by NHAZCA in the Venice area, visit the dedicated case study.
